Senior Organ Scholarship

Senior Organ Scholarship

Are you an organist who would like to develop your skills to a high level? If so, then a Sheffield Cathedral organ scholarship could be for you.

Sheffield Cathedral is looking for a Senior Organ Scholar (aged 18+), starting immediately, in an exciting time of growth and development for the new Cathedral music department.

The Cathedral sits at the heart of a great city. Known throughout the world for its steel, its football and its music, Sheffield is a place that has survived tough times, and is loved passionately by those who live here. The Cathedral has a history of hosting cultural events, concerts, and exhibitions, as well as providing educational opportunities for schools across the region. At its heart, Sheffield Cathedral is a place of worship with a growing congregation of people originating from countries across the world.

This new scholarship is part of a renewed vision for music at the cathedral. Education is at the heart of the scholarships: organ scholars will have regular opportunities to perform in the cathedral and to engage with music-making in the cathedral more broadly. The organ scholars will also be an important part of the Organ Programme, including being involved in our new Sunday Organ Recital series.

The scholarship is aimed at an undergraduate or postgraduate organist, likely studying at one of the Sheffield universities. The Senior Organ Scholar would accompany the Cathedral Choir for Evensong on Tuesday evenings, as well as receiving professional development support tailored around the individual candidate.
