Our wider Ministry Team work together to lead and support the worship and ministry of the Cathedral.
Abi has been Dean of Sheffield since November 2021. Before that she was Sub Dean of St Albans Cathedral, but has spent most of her ordained life in the Diocese of Sheffield serving first as Curate of the Manor Parish and then as Vicar of St James, Clifton in Rotherham from 2010-2018. She as Dean of Women’s Ministry from 2015-2018.
Abi studied music at King’s College, London and sang professionally before going to train for ordination at Westcott House in Cambridge.
Justin was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. He trained for ministry and was ordained in the Diocese of Johannesburg in 2007, serving his curacy at St Paul’s Parkhurst, before moving to London in 2009.
Experiences in South Africa, including the role of the local church in the fight against apartheid and the calling to work for reconciliation and justice in society has deeply informed Justin's faith and priesthood. As the Vicar of St Barnabas Ealing, he was actively involved in community organising and church planting.
Justin is passionate about working with colleagues, lay leaders and volunteers to build vibrant partnerships inside and outside the Cathedral, developing existing and new congregations and cultivating opportunities for evangelism and spiritual growth.
Ian is a Minor Canon of the Cathedral, and served previously as the Multifaith Chaplaincy Co-ordinator at Sheffield Hallam University. He shares in supporting congregational development and learning in the Cathedral. Ian is a Church Army Evangelist and also a member of the Society of Catholic Priests.
Casey is a Minor Canon of the Cathedral, supporting the Cathedral’s work with young adults and its programme of lectures. He serves in this role as a self-supporting minister alongside his full time job as Senior Lecturer in Ancient Near Eastern History and Literature in the Department of History at the University of Sheffield. He was ordained Priest in 2019 at Sheffield Cathedral.
Casey is trained as a biblical scholar and historian, and completed his D.Phil research on the book of Ezekiel in 2011. His subsequent publication of it won the Manfred Lautenschläger Award for Theological Promise in 2015. Casey arrived in Sheffield in 2013 to take up his post at the University. Prior to that he taught at Oriel College, Oxford, and at King’s College London. He is married to Amanda, and has two sons. While he and Amanda are originally American, both their boys are ‘proper Englishmen’—just ask them.
Emily grew up in the Diocese of Sheffield a few miles north of Doncaster. She trained for ordination at Cranmer Hall in Durham and was ordained Deacon at Sheffield Cathedral in 2024.
Having spent two years as a participant of the Church of England’s Ministry Experience Scheme in Nottingham and Halifax, Emily is a champion of the programme and has been a member of the scheme’s steering group since 2021. She is also a trustee of the National Estates Churches Network (NECN), an ecumenical network supporting people in Christian ministry on estates across England and Wales.
Emily serves in the Cathedral Mission Team.
Ann returned to her home town of Sheffield after retiring as Rector of Adwick-le-Street and Skelbrooke and priest in charge of Skellow and Owston in Doncaster. Always a Sheffielder at heart, Ann went to Myers Grove School and then to Huddersfield Polytechnic to study Systems and Control Engineering. She worked as a graduate engineer for British Steel in the early 1980's, and after becoming mother to Rebecca and Rosie, she returned to write multi-media training programmes for British Steel/Corus. Ann began training in 2000 and was ordained deacon in 2003, priested in 2004, serving her curacy at St Mary the Virgin, Ecclesfield followed by incumbency in Doncaster for 14 years. Ann is also a member of the diocesan Health and wellbeing group, involved in promoting the healing ministry of the church, and a committee member of ChangingSheff, the city centre residents association.
Prior to ordination Richard’s working life began as a teacher of Physics in local comprehensive schools. He subsequently moved into higher education, training secondary science teachers at Sheffield Hallam University. He has worked on a number of international projects which have focused upon the development of science teaching programmes across Europe. Richard came to ordination after serving as a Lay Reader for 20 years in the diocese. As a self-supporting priest Richard served in parishes in Doncaster. He was Area Dean of the Adwick le Street Deanery until his retirement from parish ministry in 2021. He has been active nationally and locally in the discernment and selection of vocations to ordained ministry and continues to serve as Assistant Diocesan Director of Ordinands.
Mike was commissioned as Hon Cathedral Evangelist on Christ the King Sunday 2014 in recognition of his fruitful ministry within the Cathedral. He has worked as a volunteer Chaplain to visitors since Easter 2011. On a day to day basis Mike ‘rubs shoulders’ with the many visitors to the cathedral. It is an opportunity to share the good news of the Christian Gospel as need arises. He also has a supporting role to the volunteer guides and welcomers, and facilitates events for Seniors.
Genevieve is training for ordination to the priesthood at St Hild College. She was born and raised in Liverpool, before moving to South Africa in her mid-twenties. Her experiences in South Africa deeply challenged her faith and understanding of the mission of God in the world. She served as a lay-ministry leader and elder at Pinelands Baptist Church, South Africa, before feeling a call to ordination in the Church of England.
Genevieve works as a Professor at the University of Sheffield, teaching students why buildings don't fall down. She is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer, Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and member of the Academy of Science of South Africa. She has undergraduate degrees in Integrated Engineering and Theology, and a PhD in Engineering. She is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Cape Town, having spent 15 years working there as an academic (including as the first female head of the Mechanical Engineering Department). Her research interests include explosion mitigation and behaviour of structures under extreme conditions. Rumour has it that some of her journal papers have been read by more than three Norwegians!
Genevieve serves part-time in the Cathedral Mission Team and has a passion for seeing people grow in their faith. She works with young adults, the Diddy Disciples group and on missional projects as they unfold in the life of the Cathedral. She is married to Gareth and has two almost grown-up children.
