A Precious Earth aims to keep the environment at the forefront of our thinking.
A Precious Earth was originally composed as a response to the floods of 2007 in Sheffield, Wakefield, Gloucester and Tewkesbury, and the first performance received a standing ovation from a packed Wakefield Cathedral.
The words have been selected from a wide variety of sources -- the Bible, children's poems, Victorian human writers, the Millennium Resolution, quotations from politicians and African tribal sayings -- and various revisions have been made to keep the piece up to date.
Composer Jonathan Bielby has been awarded an MBE for his lifetime dedication to cathedral music and he is joined by Christina Jones (soprano) and Andrew Randall (baritone) when he brings his inspiring work to Sheffield Cathedral next month.
