Only three characters in the Old Testament are described as 'very old'; Eli, David and Barzillai. Reading their stories gives an insight into what the role of the elderly was in Ancient Israel and may help us to decide whether such extreme old age was viewed as a blessing or a curse. Did age bring a person wisdom, or take it away?
