Heritage Open Days 2019: Free Micro Exhibitions

Special micro exhibitions to celebrate the people power and powerful people in the history of the Cathedral.

Come along to the Cathedral and meet some of the people from the Cathedral's history who have held power and influence through-out the centuries.

These micro exhibitions are free to explore. We will also be offering a tour of the Chapter House and an exclusive talk, but these must be booked in advance.

HOD 2019 Exhibitions

1. A new exhibition for HOD 2019 is 'Powerful People: The Earls of Shrewsbury and Bess of Hardwick'. A micro-exhibition in the Shrewsbury Chapel will tell the story of this powerful dynasty who had great influence in Sheffield and the region.

2. Also new this year, 'Power of Vision: Provost Jarvis and the Building of the Cathedral', which tells the story of the plans to extend the Cathedral in 20th Century and of Provost Jarvis, the force behind them.

3. In the Crypt Chapel we will be exhibiting 'Power of Courage: Private Procter VC'. Learn of the humble story of Private Procter, a recipient of a battlefield Victoria Cross in 1916.

4. 'Power of Service: Bishops - The Shepherds of the Flock' - meet the Bishops of years gone by.

5. 'Powerful People: our Living Stones' - also new this year is a self-guided memorial stone trail offering an insight into the lives of those who are memorialised in the Cathedral.

We will also have some children’s activities and the 1554 Coffee Shop will be open all day.
