A candlelit evening of reflection and remembrance underneath the Peace Doves for all to attend.
This service will be a time for people of all faiths and none to remember those who have lost their lives in past conflicts. In the quiet setting of the candle-lit Cathedral, under Peter Walker’s stunning installation of Peace Doves and with the Cathedral’s poppy display, it will be a powerful setting to think of those lost in conflicts past and present. Through a series of four readings and musical interludes, we will reflect together on loss and the reality of human death. There will be a chance to make your own peace dove as an act of remembrance to take it away with you.
After this time of remembrance, a service of Compline will begin at 8:00pm. This traditional Christian liturgy of prayer to end the day will be sung by our Cathedral Choir. All are welcome to attend.
Doors will open at 6:30pm for a 7pm start.
Peace Doves is a large-scale art installation by renowned sculptor and artist Peter Walker. It features several thousand paper doves suspended above the nave of the Cathedral. We hope you’ll join us and experience this moving art work at night, when its presence is at its most stunning.
