Lunchtime Recital: John Cooper

  • Sheffield Cathedral Church Street Sheffield S1 1HA (map)

We invite musicians from near and far to share their musical talent with us. All are welcome!

John began playing the violin at school in Sheffield at the age of twelve. He went on to study at the Huddersfield College of Music with Herbert Whone and then at the Royal College of Music with Jose Garcia and Isolde Menges. He has taught violin in Sheffield and Derbyshire for many years. He was also leader of the Palm Court String Quartet for more than 25 years and led the Hallam Sinfonia Orchestra for more than 10 years where he continues to play regularly.

John will be accompanied by Linda Weareham who began her formal piano studies aged of eleven. She studied music at Bretton Hall, part of Leeds University and continued her piano studies with Vera Yelverton in London gaining the ARCM diploma. During this time she participated in concerts at Alexandra Palace, the Purcell Room and the Queen Elizabeth Hall. She has been an official accompanist for the David Clover Festival of Singing, has been the accompanist for the Sheffield Chorale for a number of years, and is a member of the Abbeydale Singers.

Linda performs regularly as a duo with violinist John Cooper, including performances at Sheffield Cathedral and Chesterfield Parish Church and both very much enjoy taking short recitals into local primary schools hoping to involve and inspire future generations of musicians.
