Lunchtime Recital: William Campbell

Twenty-one-year-old organist William is currently a Third Year Music undergraduate student at the University of York. He holds the posts Director of Music at St. Helen’s Church, Stonegate and Interim Associate Organist at Leeds Minster.

He started organ lessons aged 14 as a music scholar at Wellington College under Simon Williamson and Sean Farrell and achieved Grade 8 with distinction within 2 years. He currently holds both LTCL and DipABRSM diplomas for performance on violin. He was appointed Joyce Jeffries Organ Scholar at St. Laurence Church, Catford in May 2018 and became Acting Organist in May 2019; at the same time, he was Organist at St. Mary’s Church, West Croydon. Upon leaving school, he became the Organ Scholar at Guildford Cathedral under the direction of Katherine Dienes-Williams, where he regularly accompanied the Cathedral Choir

He has played the Organ for the World Premiere recording of Song of the Prophets with the Chineke! Orchestra at St. Paul’s Cathedral in 2021 and accompanied the Choir of Leeds Minster for their Easter Sunday service broadcast live on BBC One in 2022. William passed his FRCO diploma in 2022 and has recently deputised as an organist at Bradford, Sheffield and Wakefield Cathedrals alongside his two other posts.
