Newly granted refugees are often not seen on the streets and so are hidden from the statistics of those vulnerable to/experiencing homelessness recorded by the Council due to this lack of physical visibility; this absence of protection and support leaves refugees highly vulnerable to exploitation, modern slavery and human trafficking and means that although they face the same physical and mental challenges of street homelessness, this largely goes unrecognised.
