Without doubt this Easter will live long in our memory and we have seen history made. There will be much to add to our archives and to the ancient heritage of this place.
In the Royal Maundy service we have celebrated and given thanks for the many acts of Christian service offered in communities across the Diocese and County. On Easter Sunday we celebrated the Risen Christ, through the church his body continues to touch the lives of many people.
Teresa of Avila expressed these acts of service eloquently when she wrote the words;
Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands, with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks with
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.
Teresa of Avila (1515–1582)
It was a joy to welcome those who were confirmed and baptised on Easter Saturday. We also welcome those who are baptised on Easter morning and prayed that they may know the joy of the risen Christ as they continue their journey of faith.
Signs of new life and growth are in evidence among us.
Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
