Sheffield Cathedral is delighted to have been granted £480,000 from the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund.
The grant will be used to undertake vital roof replacements in the Cathedral Nave and North and South Aisles. The government funded grant is one of 39 made to Cathedrals around the country totalling £14.5million for urgent repairs to Church of England and Catholic Cathedrals.
The funding will enable the complete replacement of the roofs in the Nave and side aisles and will ensure the protection of the recently restored Cathedral interior.
On hearing the announcement, The Very Reverend Peter Bradley, Dean of Sheffield said:
“Sheffield Cathedral is deeply grateful to receive this significant grant to help protect our First and Second World War memorials and the many other treasures housed in the Cathedral.”
Work on replacing the roofs will be undertaken in 2017. Further details about the grant can be found on the The Church of England website.
