In a few days time we shall begin the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This is a time when we reflect on our common identity in Christ, but also through prayer seek to shape our sense of common engagement and mission.
It is of course possible to place diversity in the midst of unity. This is the clear reality in a large community like a cathedral. It was also the experience of the early Church. The vocation is after all to unity, not to uniformity.
As we begin to pray together with our fellow disciples of different traditions and expressions of Church, let us seek again ways of making Christ known in our City and let us find ways of showing through the shared life and witness of the communities of the Church.
At a time of change and uncertainty across the world, such unity is even more profound and can offer hope.
