During advent the Church reflects on the distance between our reality and our hopes, and celebrates those who looked for light in dark times.
In darkness light consists of three prayer installations - Gloom, Apollo Christmas and Treasures in Darkness - and each of these draw on verses from the Bible which picture a God interacting with the world, forming the world out of darkness, and bringing light and hope.
The installations will be open from 3pm on 3 December followed by the Advent Procession at 4pm. They can be found around the Cathedral in Old St George's Chapel, The Crypt and the Chapel of the Holy Spirit until 7 January, and can be visited whenever the Cathedral is open. You are invited to use these spaces for personal prayer and meditation.
On Tuesday 19 December an 'after hours' opening from 4-9pm provides the opportunity to visit the prayer installations and explore this ancient sacred space by candlelight. This includes a special service of Choral Evensong from 5.45-6.30pm.
