Little did we know, as we locked the doors to 1554 Coffee and the gift shop mid-March, quite how different life would be, or indeed how long it would be until we could think about reopening!
Unprecedented times have brought about unprecedented change. The world around us is now a very different place, which means we have had to adapt to a new normal. This isn’t an easy challenge. The coffee shop had become a busy hub in the heart of the City; a coffee shop built by the Cathedral and for the Cathedral, with a team who understood the mission and ethos, a team who worked hard and achieved in a way we could have only imagined when we opened our doors five years ago. We thank every individual who played a part in that. It’s because of the work over the last five years, and the ongoing support and understanding from our loyal customers, we are sure 1554 Coffee will be able to its doors again… We have a lot to learn and adapt to, so please bear with us as we try to find our new normal.
We know you will all be missing our wonderful gift shop too. 1554 Coffee and the gift shop are both part of Sheffield Cathedral Enterprises; this is the trading arm of Sheffield Cathedral. Bev and I have always worked together, although visibly separate in the businesses. Something you will notice now, is us working very closely together as one team in the gift shop and the coffee shop. We have been working very hard behind the scenes finding a way forward and seeing how we can make both the gift shop and coffee shop safe places for you to visit.
We are thrilled to be able to tell you the gift shop will be opening on Tuesday 11th August at 11am. We won’t be able to open the coffee shop just yet, but the exciting news is that you’ll be able to buy heavenly coffee, soft drinks and Our Cow Molly ice cream to take-away from the gift shop. We know how much our customers have been missing our coffee, so this is a short-term solution until the coffee shop opens. You can enjoy these to take-away whilst you visit the Cathedral or enjoy the outside space in the City Centre.
