I’m looking forward so much to my first Christmas as Dean of Sheffield Cathedral.
Cathedrals are holy places, places for people to gather and pray, for people to shelter and to meet friends. They are also places with enormous potential for fun, as I discovered at the recent light show when I was able to try on my angel wings rather earlier than expected!
Angels are everywhere in Sheffield Cathedral – on the walls, in the windows and tucked into the roof. Most of you will know some living angels as well – people we love, those who keep our streets safe at night and those who look after us in care homes and hospitals – and perhaps there are some angels watching over us that we cannot see, but only feel their presence…
This Christmas I’m praying for every person in Sheffield, that they would be surrounded and comforted by angels of every kind and feel the presence of peace and happiness in their lives. Whatever sadness there has been, and whatever sorrow lies ahead, may God bless you all and fill you up with love.
