Join Sheffield Cathedral in honouring heroes past and present on VE Day, in support of The Cathedral Archer Project
The Big Picnic for Hope is an opportunity for your household to be part of a virtual get together, to help honour heroes past and present.
Join Us!
Whether you are on your own or with other people at home we are asking each household to have a picnic and send in your photos to share with us worldwide.
People can also share their ideas for the Big Picnic for Hope, what to bake, what to make, and their own creative ideas online using the hashtag #bigpicnicforhope to help inspire others to get involved. This will help everyone get ready to join together on Friday 8th May to share photos of their picnics, and discuss memories and stories of their loved ones past and present in a way fitting of the circumstances we are living through at this time.
Share your photos of your picnic on your social media on the 8th May using the hashtag #bigpicnicforhope and support our JustGiving campaign.
Your Donations Will Help The Cathedral Archer Project:
Provide and deliver food to rough sleepers and those not on benefits who are being housed by the council; at the moment roughly 180 meals a day
Continue the work of their social enterprise, Just Works, supporting vulnerable people in employment
Look to the future and provide these vital services to homeless and vulnerable adults in Sheffield in the wake of COVID-19
About the Big Picnic for Hope
Many of us would have been commemorating the 75th Anniversary of VE Day on May 8th. Families and friends would have been gathering for street parties and celebrations around the UK, which unfortunately is no longer possible.
However, even in the current lockdown we can still come together to recognise this date through our ‘Big Picnic for Hope’. The Big Picnic for Hope is organised by a collection of the nations Cathedrals and allows us to celebrate the heroes of our new ‘homefront’. Those risking their lives, the NHS, carers, delivery personnel, workers across food stores or public transport, and the remarkable collective effort of the nation to stay home and play our own individual part in helping to see this through.
The Big Picnic for Hope also highlights many people are struggling to put food on the table for themselves and their families. In Sheffield and across South Yorkshire, the Big Picnic for Hope will also be raising essential funds for The Cathedral Archer Project, a Sheffield homelessness charity. The Cathedral Archer Project is the only charity offering face-to-face support for homeless people in Sheffield and neighbouring communities during the Covid-19 crisis and has experienced a 200% increase in demand for food.
