National Volunteers' Week

This week is National Volunteers' Week and so we thought we would take the opportunity to share some of our volunteer's stories.

Our volunteers work in a huge range of roles at the Cathedral and without them our building and community would not function as smoothly as it does!

Glynn's Story

"I started volunteering after taking early retirement from the NHS. As much as I enjoyed the freedom retirement brought I found I missed being useful.

I work as a volunteer two days a week. My first day is at Sheffield Media Productions supporting kids who are at risk of exclusion from school. My second day is at Sheffield Cathedral where I offer voluntary support as their handyman. The job is very varied and keeps my hands and brain busy - which is what I wanted from volunteering. I take care of lots of jobs that would otherwise have to wait, for example, replacing a door closer, re-tightening screws to a sticking door and removing litter from around the cathedral precinct.

If you have free time, give volunteering a go!
