Music and School Singing Programme Update
Dean Abi invited the Cathedral’s Director of Music and Schools Singing Programme, Tom Daggett to provide an update on activity since he started in August 2023. Tom shared his philosophy of “happy excellence” with Chapter and gave a detailed update on the work done so far and his intention to lead a programme which engages with the children across the diocese who will be most positively impacted by the opportunity being a chorister will provide. Tom talked through the financial plans for the programme and highlighted the work that has already started in schools.
Finance
The Cathedral Treasurer provided Chapter with a detailed presentation of the planned Chapter budget for 2024 and gave a summary of the assumptions made. Chapter were able to scrutinise this in detail ahead of agreeing the next steps.
Peer Review
Dean Abi talked through a summary of the Peer Review report and invited comment from Chapter. An action plan identifying the recommendations from the report was also tabled and Chapter were able to explore this. The discussion led to Cathedral Strategy and the plan to have a small working party looking at pulling together a working presentation of this ahead of an away day on 22nd January.
Cathedrals Measure
Chapter were given a paper that summarised the current position of the Constitution and Statutes and the work ongoing to address the concerns raised by Church Burgesses and Church Commissioners respectively.
Cathedral Properties
The current condition of one of the clergy houses was discussed in detail and it was agreed that new, more suitable, accommodation is needed for the family. Chapter reviewed a paper shared ahead of the meeting looking at the possibility of an environmentally friendly house in Meersbrook and Chapter agreed it was an interesting potential purchase with a review to be done against available guidance in the first instance.

Chapter agreed to Swift Boxes being installed in the space above the gift shop.
