Read the update from Chapter’s meeting in June 2023.
Matters Arising
A number of points were raised from Chapter’s review of the previous minutes and the action log. Chapter discussed the cathedral’s risk register and the potential impact of the Living in Love and Faith journey that the Church of England is currently on.
Questions were also asked about maintenance and the outstanding works planned on the main front doors. The Chief Operating Officer gave feedback that the work is planned but that there is a delay on getting the required part.
Finance
The Finance Manager and Cathedral Treasurer gave a brief update on the Cathedral’s current financial position and reviewed April Management Accounts for Chapter and the Enterprise Business. The Treasurer then presented to Chapter the work that has taken place to prepare a 3 year forecast for the Cathedral’s financial position – outlining all the major assumptions that have been made in putting the forecast together. Chapter asked questions and for clarification on various aspects of the forecast and it was agreed that the Chief Operating Officer would work with the Senior Management Team to translate the forecast and assumptions into an action plan that can be re-presented to Chapter for further review.
Deans Report
Dean Abi presented her written report to Chapter and shared updates on key appointments and developments in the music department.
Safeguarding
Dean Abi gave an update to Chapter about the latest Cathedral Safeguarding Committee Meeting and it was noted that the July Chapter meeting would include attendance from the Diocesan (Cathedral) Safeguarding Advisor.
Cathedrals Measure
The Chief Operating Officer confirmed that a further draft of the Constitution and Statutes had been returned and would be shared with Chapter, Church Burgesses and Church Commissioners imminently.
Net Zero Progress
The Chief Operating Officer summarised a written paper submitted to Chapter outlining the work done so far on reducing CO2 emissions and the next steps that have been outlined. It was noted that there is a need now to encourage more congregational activity.
Chapter Annual Schedule
A draft of an annual schedule was shared with Chapter by the Chief Operating Officer and comments on it requested. A date for a Chapter Away Day was discussed and it was agreed that this would be able to take place once the final key, senior appointments, are in post in the cathedral.
