Part Of The Team

Our retired volunteers add so much to the Cathedral community. Bringing a wealth of wisdom, experience and patience, we value each and every one.

Alison's Story

On my retirement I really had no idea how I was going to replace a busy job in teaching with days full of time and little structure. On the advice of a friend I volunteered at Sheffield Cathedral with a view to being a Tour Guide and Welcomer. I have found volunteering to be a great source of pleasure and satisfaction. I work with, and meet, new people all the time and appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the wider community.

Whilst the Cathedral is foremost a place of worship it also has a treasured heritage, supports the more vulnerable members of society and promotes links with the wider business and public sector community in Sheffield.

I would suggest that anyone who has a little time on their hands would enjoy working at Sheffield Cathedral. Whilst it can sometimes be challenging there is always support, it is great being part of the team and it is always stimulating and interesting.
