Welcoming for Over 20 Years

Among our dedicated volunteers at Sheffield Cathedral is Margaret Garner, a guide and welcomer for over 20 years. Here is why it matters to her.

Margaret's Story

"Sheffield Cathedral, the oldest building in Sheffield, where God has been worshipped for over a thousand years, represents both the Christian Faith, and an absorbing story of architecture, history, stained glass, and its people, past and present.

I have been a Guide and Welcomer at Sheffield Cathedral for over 20 years.  It is a privilege to worship there and to be part of its community.  As a retired historian I prepare a lot of research material for visitors and I always enjoy talking and listening to people who come to the Cathedral.  It is a great pleasure to offer a warm welcome to all our visitors whatever their interests, and to share with them, through that welcome, the Christian heritage of this beautiful church, standing at the heart of the city."
